Ocean Embers has been the stable star for Cranbourne-based Eden since her competitive debut during the 2015 Spring Carnival and has posted a commendable career total of four wins and a minor, through only ten appearances.

Finishing mid-pack in the Listed Nudgee Quality (1200m) at Eagle Farm on December 31st, Eden told Tasracing that the Beneteau mare has been set for the Bow Mistress Stakes 2017 first-up and he is expecting her to relish the conditions of the race.

“This mare has had her share of issues and that is why she has had only 10 career starts but we’ve managed to get her through those issues and this preparation we are expecting her to blossom,” Eden said.

“Ocean Embers has had a throat operation and had bone chips removed from both fetlock joints but she possesses an abundance of talent and I couldn’t have her any better for Friday’s race.

“We targeted the Bow Mistress as an ideal start to her campaign heading to the Group 1 in Adelaide and provided we get a soft 5 track or thereabouts on Friday she will be very hard to beat.”

A proven first-up performer, Ocean Embers resumed in 2016 for a smart win in the Sheen Group Plate (1100m) before finishing a close second in the Listed Lightning Stakes (1050m) at South Australia’s Morphettville Racecourse.

Returning to winning form in the MRC Foundation Handicap (1100m), the mare out of Burningwood stormed home to win her first black type crown in the Group 3 Ladbrokes Cockram Stakes (1200m) on August 27th.

Progressing to fourth in the Group 2 Schillaci Stakes (1100m), Ocean Embers was sent to the paddock after failing to beat a single runner home in the Group 2 Salinger Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on Derby Day.

Ocean Embers will leave from barrier 6 in the eight-horse Bow Mistress Stakes field and will be partnered by Jason Benbow.
