2015 Bow Mistress Trophy Ideal for Lady Lakshmi

February 3rd, 2015

A standout performer for the Cranbourne-based trainer over the 2014 racing calendar, Stephen Theodore is thrilled with the condition of classy mare Lady Lakshmi ahead of Friday’s Group 3 Bow Mistress Stakes (1200m) in Tasmania.

Securing five wins and six minor places over her 23 start career so far, Lady Lakshmi returned to racing in the Alternate Railway FM (1200m) at Moonee Valley on January 24th, and while displayed good gate speed and settling into a positive rhythm, was unlucky to be blocked for a run late and 7th.

Pleased with the continually building form and condition of the daughter of Lonhro so far, Theordore told Racing Ahead he was pleased with the mare’s performance with a different running style first-up and is confident of a return to the winner’s circle in the 2015 Bow Mistress Stakes.

“She’ll run Saturday and then have one more in Victoria before heading over to the Apple Isle,” Theodore said prior to Lady Lakshmi’s first-up run.

“I think it’s definitely a great opportunity to get a bit of black type which I think she deserves.

“This time in … in a trial last week we rode her with a bit quieter than normal and she attacked the line ferociously and I just said to the owners we’ve got nothing to lose first-up and even maybe second to just to see If that tactic can be adopted race day.

“We’ll assess that once the final field and barrier draw comes out, it just might add another string to her bow.”

Unable to make much of an impact over a short debut campaign during the 2012 spring, Lady Lakshmi returned to racing in positive form over the autumn, winter and spring of 2013, but was unable to secure a positive result at black type level.

Transferring to the care of Theodore from the stables of David Brideoake and David Feek prior to her 2014 return, Lady Lakshmi undoubtedbly found an extra gear; claiming minor place finishes in each of the Listed Nitschke Stakes (1400m), Group 3 JB Carr Stakes (1400m) and Listed Adelaide Guineas (1600m) most notably.
